Modeled on the classic chicken ark that has served British hen-keepers for decades, our medium portable coop provides a comfortable and healthy home for up to 4 medium laying hens or 6 Bantams. All handcrafted chicken coops are made using plantation-grown, renewable Douglas Fir timber. Douglas Fir has the added benefit of a natural woody scent that repels insects, keeping your birds lice-free. All coops are stained with a non-toxic, low VOC, weather resistant paint. The Handcrafted Chicken Ark covers less ground space than more traditional chicken coops. As well as space efficiency, you gain the advantage of a covered run which gives both your hens and costly feed a good degree of weather protection. This traditional design also satisfies your birds’ natural instincts, allowing them to go up at night to roost. The Ark has one full-length end door, giving easy access to the lower run for feeding and watering. It also allows chickens to exit and roam free. The nesting box, located at one end of the ark, has its own external egg collection door. A removable side door allows for easy cleaning of the upper roosting chamber. The ladder can be raised at night to give your hens extra security from predators. All Chicken Arks come with sturdy carrying handles for easy portability. Moved every couple of days, your chickens will mow and fertilize your lawn. The coop’s lower covered-run provides 20 square feet of open space allowing chickens daily access to sunlight (and necessary development of Vitamin D), while at the same time providing shelter from both rain and hot sun. The upper roosting area provides 16 sq feet of space for shared roosting and nesting activities. Three upper ventilation holes allow circulation of fresh air.
